Lolly recommends: Rye, East Sussex

Some of the heckin' best sniffs in Rye, tried and tested by yours truly.

The house with two front doors, Mermaid Street

After a day trip to Camber Sands earlier this month we decided to plan a short getaway to Rye to explore the ancient town and sniff out the best places for humans holidaying with hounds.

Turns out Rye is very pooch friendly, the majority of restaurants and shops welcome dogs and their owners to enjoy the delights of this seaside town together...here are some of our favourites:

HOUND FRIENDLY ACCOMMODATION

We spent the night at The Ship Inn, a cosy pub with comfortable rooms and plenty of inviting corners to snuggle up and snooze. Hounds are welcome in all areas of the building (score!) and can stay in four out of the eleven boutique rooms.

Side note: We had to pay a small £15 charge for a dog-friendly room.

HOUND FRIENDLY EATERIES

For dinner we went to HOOF, an independent burger restaurant in the centre of town where well behaved doggos are welcome. The staff were very welcoming, they seated us next to a nice warm radiator and offered Lolly a fresh bowl of water on arrival. 13/10 would recommend to a furriend.

HOUND FRIENDLY SHOPS

Lolly hates to be left outside whilst we dip in and out of shops so it's a pretty big deal when we find a place that welcomes four-legged creatures. Here are a few neat stores in Rye that allow doggos to have a good snoop with alongside their humans:

Lola & SiDney 29A High Street, Rye, TN31 7JG

Vintage, homewares, furniture and quirky gifts. Named after two cute bunnies, this place had a bowl of water outside AND dog treat samples by Wellybix.

Forget Me Not 72 Church Square, Rye, TN31 7HF

Greeting cards, textiles, decorations and homewares.

No.54 Antiques & Gifts 54 The Mint, Rye, TN31 7EN

Antiques, furniture and knick-knacks.

TOP SNIFFS

Mermaid Street Cute cobbles, interesting smells and lots of pretty doorsteps for photo ops.

Camber Sands is a quick ten-minute drive from Rye - this is one of the best places in the South East for seaside sniffs. It has over two miles of sandy beach and epic sand dunes to stretch your legs and zoom like crazy.

Side note: Dogs are not permitted in zoned areas between 1 May and 30 September. More information about beach rules can be found here.
